To celebrate the 25th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants, I designed a lifecycle marketing email newsletter created to support the milestone across Paramount+. While the overall email layout was developed in Figma, the real work centered on creating the visual elements that defined the tone, energy, and overall campaign presence, helping translate a major franchise anniversary into a compelling retention marketing moment.

The challenge was capturing SpongeBob’s instantly recognizable personality in a way that felt celebratory, bold, and emotionally resonant across generations of fans. The visuals needed to honor the legacy and nostalgia of the brand while still feeling polished, dynamic, and fresh within a modern email experience. Every element had to reinforce the sense of occasion while integrating seamlessly into the larger layout and supporting the broader anniversary messaging.

My contributions included designing the overall layout, the hero artwork, supporting banner graphics, and an animated GIF in Photoshop, all created to bring added motion, personality, and visual impact to the campaign. Because the project lived within an email environment, the design process also had to account for the technical realities of retention marketing, where performance and compatibility are just as important as visual expression.

A major complexity of the project was creating animation within the strict file-size limitations of email. Animated GIFs needed to remain under the 2MB threshold, which required careful optimization without sacrificing quality or diminishing the effect of the motion itself. Achieving that balance involved thoughtful decisions around frame count, timing, color usage, and export settings so the final animation could feel smooth, engaging, and lightweight enough to perform reliably across devices and email clients.

The final newsletter successfully balanced nostalgia, motion, and technical precision, enhancing the anniversary campaign through a visually expressive set of assets that remained compatible, efficient, and impactful in a retention marketing context. The work helped elevate the milestone into a more memorable subscriber experience while preserving the playful, unmistakable spirit of the SpongeBob brand.

This project reflects my ability to collaborate within cross-functional workflows, design within real technical constraints, and deliver high-visibility visual storytelling for large-scale brand moments. The final work transformed a major franchise anniversary into a polished lifecycle marketing moment, combining celebratory storytelling, animation, and technical discipline to create a visually memorable email experience for Paramount+.
